Central Downs second in carnival at Platz Oval

RUGBY LEAGUE: Central Downs was runners-up in the annual zone 5 under-35kg rugby league carnival which finished in Clifton today.

Wynnum won its eight games and Central Downs won seven from eight. South Burnett finished third and is hosting next year's carnival.

Macintyre beat Charleville 52-14 today with Jake Murphy scoring three tries.

Jacob Bates from Wynnum was player of the carnival with Eli Costello (Central Downs) the best back and Hayden Baker (Western Downs) the best forward.

Individual award for Central Downs went to Billy Peardon (best back), Patrick Denny (best forward) and Josh Collins (most improved).

Award winners from Macintyre were Dillon Smith (best back), Fergus Elborne (best forward) and Declan Wren (most improved).

In the final game of the carnival, East defeated West 18-6. Central Downs trio Billy Peardon, Eli Costello and Patrick Denny were part of the East team along with Declan Wren, Fergus Elborne and Oska Zappa from Macintyre.

Central Downs awarded life membership to George Gall, Col and Heather Hoey at the carnival presentations in recognition of a lot of hard work for Central Downs teams over a long period of time.
