Centre scores three tries in local league derby
RUGBY LEAGUE: Wattles' outside backs scored five tries in a 42-6 A-grade victory against Warwick at Platz Oval, Clifton, on Sunday afternoon.
Wattles scored their first try after Ryan Duggan dived over after taking a penalty tap in the third minute of the game.
The home side scored again in the 10th and 30th minutes of the first half.
After four successive penalties against Wattles, the referee sinbinned fullback Andrew Richardson and lock Ryan Duggan in the last four minutes of the half reducing Wattles to 11 men.
Centre Joe Fuimuono scored wide out for Warwick, captain Mick Bloomfield converted for a 16-6 scoreline.
The second half started with Wattles two men down but the home side was first over through centre Michael Marshall.
With one man still off, Wattles scored again and the Cowboys never challenged again as Marshall took his try tally to three and Braydon Wilson scored another two tries to boost his chance of being the leading tryscorer in the TRL this season.
Wattles blooded under-18 player Mitch Bourke on the wing and he had a solid debut in A grade.
Coach Travis Burns rated half Matt Duggan, second rower Ty Gardner, fullback Andrew Richardson and centre Michael Marshall as the best for Wattles.
Burns said his team was under no illusions about how tough Warwick would be despite them having some players out.
"We had some players out as well. The team did well when we were down to 11 men,” he said.
"I am really happy to keep the third-placed team down to six points.”
Bloomfield said there was not enough energy in his team.
"We didn't show up,” he said.
Two of the best for Warwick were fullback Craig Donn and hooker Ben Sullivan.
Midway through the first half, Wattles winger Braydon Wilson intercepted but was run down by Warwick half Coedie Tandy who tried hard all day.

WATTLES won 30-16 in the reserve-grade game against Warwick.
Second rower Garth Lonergan from Wattles won the Peter Watt Memorial Trophy for player of the match.
The trophy was presented by Peter's children Lyvia Doro and Nathan Watt.
Wattles led 16-10 early in the second half before finishing the better.
TWO Southern Downs players have made the Queensland regional under-20 team after the Toowoomba Clydesdales won the weekend carnival at Murgon.
The players to make the team were Nick Van Der Poel (Wattles) and Mitch Watson (Warwick).
Warwick pair Cody Byrne and Coen Martin-Brown also played in the winning team.
