CFMEU boss Dave Hanna charged with criminal offences

FORMER CFMEU boss Dave Hanna has been charged with criminal offences arising out of the royal commission into trade unions.

The former Labor Party powerbroker was today charged with seven counts of receipt or solicitation of secret commissions by an agent, and was granted immediate watchhouse bail.

The charges relate to more than $150,000 worth of free work allegedly done on his home at Cornubia south of Brisbane in 2013, in exchange for industrial peace with construction giant Mirvac.

His arrest comes after The Courier-Mail revealed this week Queensland Police's Trade Union Task Force has begun proceedings in the Brisbane Supreme Court under proceeds-of-crime legislation to restrain the home.

It was built in 2013 and became the subject of intense scrutiny during the royal commission last year.

It is alleged Mirvac managers organised the free goods and services relating to Mr Hanna's five-bedroom house, and the company's $8.7 million Orion shopping centre project at Springfield absorbed the costs.

"The subcontractors who provided the goods and services for the Cornubia House agreed to either absorb the expense themselves, or alternatively, include the expense within false quotes or variation claims made out to Mirvac for its unrelated Orion PAD 2 Project," police allege in an affidavit as part of the Supreme Court application.

"The total amount of the benefit to Mr Hanna will not be known until a financial analysis has been completed."

Mr Hanna is due to appear in court on January 25.
