Chaffey stands out for Darling Downs at Qld titles
WARWICK State High School student Isaac Chaffey was the leading try scorer for Darling Downs in the Queensland under-15 state championships at Wynnum.
Chaffey, who plays club rugby league for Eastern Suburbs, scored four tries in the carnival playing centre for Darling Downs.
He was joined in the team by St Joseph's, Stanthorpe, student Jack Evans (Border Bears juniors) and Scots PGC student Khan Ladbrooke (Wattles juniors).
Darling Downs came fifth out of 12, the best performance by the region in recent years.
The regional team started with a 16-10 victory on the first day against Metropolitan West.
Chaffey scored two tries in a 28-12 loss to eventual winners Metropolitan East on the Friday.
He scored a try and had one disallowed when Darling Downs beat Sunshine Coast 14-12 on the third day.
Darling Downs finished the carnival with a 6-4 victory against Peninsula on the final day. Chaffey scored his fourth try of the carnival and won the player of the match award as judged by the state selectors.
Chaffey was voted player of the carnival by his own team.
Evans started in each game in the front row and impressed with his hard running.
Ladbrooke was a "tackling machine" for the Darling Downs team after starting the carnival on the bench and making an impact in each game.
