Champion woodcrafter pays attention to detail

A MIX of passion, patience and talent saw local woodcrafter Wayne Vince triumph at the Warwick Show.

More than 1000 hours of work paid off for Mr Vince when his most challenging creation - an Austin-Western grader model - was awarded first out of 53 entries in the woodwork section of the Warwick Show at the weekend.

Mr Vince said since his retirement seven years ago his love for woodwork had grown and he had built about 20 models with the Austin-Western grader being the most difficult, but also the most rewarding.

"The grader is very detailed and I enjoyed the meticulous work," he said.

"I even made the controls in the cab workable, along with the ripper and blade."

Mr Vince said not a day goes by where he doesn't spend time in his workshop at home, or at the Warwick Woodcrafters shed.

"It is my way of relaxing," he said.

He is looking forward to creating his next masterpiece which will be a totally new challenge as he tries his hand at building a musical instrument.
