Chance for junior golf coaching starting this week

GOLF: The MyGolf junior coaching program will hit off on Friday afternoon at Warwick Golf Club and more players are still welcome.

The seven-week program starts tomorrow and will be held on seven successive Fridays from 3.30-4.30pm.

Warwick golf professional Sam Eaves will oversee the program, which caters for boys and girls aged seven to 12 years.

"It is open to players new to the sport or current players keen to improve their play,” Eaves said.

"After the end of the program we encourage new players to play junior golf on a Sunday from 9am.

"There are three-, six- and nine-hole competitions for juniors on a Sunday morning. They are allocated to a competition based on their ability.”

At age eight, Caleb Brownlie is a regular on the fairways at Warwick Golf Club.

"I play most weekends in the same group as Dad (Ben),” he said.

"I like driving the golf ball. My drives go 100-150m.

"I want to improve all parts of my game in the junior program.”

Eaves said while golf was an individual sport, the program was particularly important as it brought together children to learn in a team environment.

Players can register online through MyGolf or phone the Warwick pro shop on 46613664 for more information.

The cost of the program is $70 for the term.
