Chance for young guns in Cowboys team for 2017

THIS week, re-appointed Cowboys A-grade coach Craig Mullaly talks about the next TRL A-grade season.

My first aim for the 2017 Toowoomba Rugby League season will be to field a competitive team yet again.

I am confident we will have most of the same players as this season and there will be some players coming up from the under-18s who will challenge for A-grade spots.

The opportunity will be there for the younger players to take their opportunities.

At this stage, our major losses are Brisbane-based pair Sam Broomhall and Trent Richardson, who may play overseas, and Brook Croft, who plans to head to Canada on a bit of an adventure.

That opens the door for some forwards to step up to A-grade. I am talking to a couple of prospective players for next season.

We haven't set a training start date yet. It will all depend on when the Toowoomba Rugby League competition is going to start next season.

There is some talk about shortening the season. At the moment, Oakey is an unlikely starter next season so if they are out, that will automatically shorten the season by two weeks as there won't be a bye.

It is better for the competition if Oakey can re-build and stay in the TRL. Most clubs go through rough patches.
