Chance of lifetime to watch sunset cycling in Warwick

CYCLING: Warwick will host a sunset street sprint for the first time during the Queensland Road Team Series round 2 this weekend on the Southern Downs.

The event gives the state's leading riders an opportunity to test and develop their skills over a three-round series.

Cyclists will head down Palmerin St at 5.30pm Saturday for the fast and furious sunset street sprint between Grafton and Fitzroy streets.

"We are very excited to have this showcase feature race in the heart of the CBD this year,” race director Mike Crawley said.

Saturday's racing program is built for spectators, with a prologue and criterium which follows a circuit using Guy, Albert, Palmerin and Victoria streets, Churchill and Jackie Howe drives and Park Rd.

Racing on Sunday will begin in Yangan and follow a route along Warwick Yangan, Jingarry Mount Sturt, Junabee, Mapes, Tannymorel, Emu Vale, Yangan Killarney roads and King St in Yangan.

Crawley said the conditions for racing were fantastic in Warwick.

"This is a challenging course which will test teamwork and sprint strategy, making it a really exciting race for spectators,” he said.

"We look forward to building our partnership with the Southern Downs Regional Council and hope to continue to promote Warwick as a series fixture.

"More than 200 competitors and officials are expected to attend the event from right across the state.”

After a fiercely competitive round 1 in Moreton Bay, men, women, and masters teams will build team strategy in the run-up to the event.
