Chance to back Olympic effort

ATHLETICS: The Southern Downs community has plenty of opportunity to support Matthew Denny as he fine tunes his preparation for his first Olympics next month.

Tomorrow at 4pm, there will be a function and barbecue at the Allora Sports Club where members of the community can offer words of encouragement to the Allora thrower who has made it to the pinnacle of sport at age 20.

A presentation will be made to Denny at the function and all will be welcome to sign a large card.

Warwick-based 1984 Olympian Don Wright will be at the function to support the first Olympian from the Allora area. They are the only two from the area to make the Olympics in athletics.

Fund raising

THE Daily News, Warwick Credit Union and Allora Sports Museum have joined together to set up a fund so members of the public can support Denny on his way to the Olympics.

The money will assist Denny with many of his out-of-pocket expenses, especially the travel involved to some overseas competitions.

Deposits online to Warwick Credit Union Acc BSB 817001, Acc No. 100003882, Acc Name Matthew Denny To Rio. Deposits can be made at WCU branches in Palmerin St, Allora, Killarney and Inglewood.
