Chance to strike at Queens Park mid-week social hockey
HOCKEY: New to town and want a sport that doesn't take up part of the weekend? Try social hockey at Queens Park each Tuesday night.
You won't even need to be as fit as the winter fixture players, as the game is played across field on half-sized fields.
Warwick Hockey Association president Gary Millard said eight teams were playing in the competition.
"We cater for men and women, aged 13 and above," he said.
"The association has attracted 15 new players in the summer social competition."
Gillian Morris, 14, is in her first year of senior hockey and is predominately playing on the wing in the social competition.
"I played centre forward for Harlequins in the women's competition this season," Morris said.
"I like centre forward or wing. It is a new experience in the mixed as the men hit the ball harder.
"It is good to play in a whole new competition to what I am accustomed to."
She is part of the Pink team which has only lost one game in the competition so far.
Morris estimates she has scored eight goals in the mixed competition.
"I had six goals in one game," she said.
"My team is all young players and one adult, Dion Phillips, who gives us some hints before each game."
She is one of 10 girls around her age playing in the mixed competition, which goes to December 8.
New players are being coached by Millard at 5.30pm each Tuesday.
