Changes proposed for $50m milk formula factory

THE developers of a $50 million milk formula factory at Wellcamp have asked for changes ahead of its imminent construction.

Toowoomba Premium Milk, which revealed plans to invest $300 million into the dairy industry in the region in November, applied to the council to request minor alterations to plans approved in February.

Changes included an enclosure of the rear loading dock, the inclusion of another mezzanine area within the factory and removing some additional roller doors.

TRC planning officer Nikki Morrison recommended the councillors approve the changes at the next meeting, saying they did not conflict with the proposal.

Construction on the site at the Wellcamp Business Park is still expected to start this month.

TPM managing director Steve Laracy told The Chronicle last year the factory would produce 30 million tins of formula for international exporting.

Stage two of the major dairy investment would include a $150 million fresh milk factory.
