Charge out to Mopar meeting

ANYONE with an interest in Chrysler vehicles should head to Warwick Dragway this weekend for the annual Mopar meeting.

The Warwick District Drag Racing Association hired the track to event organisers but will still be involved in organising the meeting and running the canteen.

President Chris Loy said Mopar was the parent company for Chrysler in the US.

"There will be many Chryslers from the 1960s and 1970s at the meeting, including Valiants and Chargers," Loy said.

"Some cars will be at the dragway this weekend which we rarely see in Australia, such as Cornettes."

The Mopar weekend is similar to the VW weekend later in the year - exclusive to one type of vehicle.

The only other type-specific meeting annually is the Six-Banger Nationals which is specifically for six-cylinder makes and organised by club members Mark and Lyn Stewart.

While the Mopar meeting was held in 2011, this weekend will be the first time the cars will be on show in the Warwick CBD.

Enthusiasts can view the 70 cars entered at Leslie Park from 10am to noon tomorrow. Loy expects a crowd of 500 at the meeting.

"There will be cars in Warwick from a number of states," he said.

Qualifying will start at 12.30pm Saturday and racing from 10.30am Sunday.
