Charges issue has developers talking

CHANGES to infrastructure charges have got developers talking even more following yesterday's story in the Daily News.

Developer Graeme Collins, who shared his views on the proposed price hikes, said he'd received phone calls since the story broke.

"I'm sure there is more concern out there," he said.

"It was sort of going to happen and not too many people knew about it."

While he didn't have a problem with the debate going behind closed doors at today's meeting, Mr Collins did have some advice for the councillors ahead of the expected vote.

"One of the big issues is if the council will make changes they should be done over a set time," he said.

"I'd be saying if you're going to increase it, stagger the introduction - give it a three-month moratorium.

"Obviously the council has money issues and it's not really something that needs to be talked about in the public forum."

There's been a strong response from Daily News readers, with a 75%-25% split of opinion on whether councillors should vote in favour of the proposed increases.
