Charity box swiped in Southern Downs break-ins

FOUR businesses in Killarney were targeted by a trouble-maker on Sunday night, with multiple break and enters occurring throughout the township.

LJ Hooker, St Vincent De Paul, Killarney Recreation Club and Veronica's on Willow were all affected.

Killarney police Sergeant Brad Doyle said damage was caused upon entering each premises but the only thing so far found missing was a charity donation box from Veronica's on Willow.

Owner Veronica Vanditt was extremely disheartened as the money was to be used to help a young boy with cerebral palsy and his mother move to Ipswich to be closer to care.

"He opened the till but there was nothing in it because we don't keep money on site," she said.

"I'd almost rather it was my money, but it's for cerebral palsy."

Sgt Doyle was similarly disappointed by the incident.

"It says a lot about the character of the person responsible if they're willing to steal money that's been raised for a young boy with cerebral palsy," he said.

Warwick Scenes of Crime officers examined the break-ins yesterday morning and Sgt Doyle said Killarney police are making follow-up inquiries including seeking CCTV footage.

Police urge anyone with information to call them on 4664 1320 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
