Check for roadworks

BEFORE heading off on your Christmas holidays this year, be sure to check for roadworks along your travel route.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads advises of immediate changes to traffic conditions on the New England Hwy as part of the flood reconstruction, which began in the first week of December.

One lane of the highway has been closed about 1km south of the intersection of Savages Rd and the New England Hwy, at Greenmount East, to allow drainage works to be carried out.

Temporary traffic lights are in place and speed limits have been reduced from 100kmh to 40kmh while work is progressing.

Minor delays can be expected during this time.

These conditions are expected to remain in place until the end of January 2013.

Motorists are reminded to obey all signage and drive to conditions for their own safety and the safety of road workers and other motorists.
