Chikera familiar with the territory
FOR 18-year-old Warwick Miss Showgirl entrant Chikera Pateman-Ryan country shows are a way of life.
The Casino-born teenager has spent many years travelling around showing cattle, but this year she will swap her farm clothes and dress up to be the face of the 2014 Warwick Show.
Chikera moved to Warwick from Tamworth two years ago, a move she said she definitely doesn't regret.
"I love it here - I would never go back," Chikera said.
"The people are so friendly here - 99% will smile at you when you walk down the street."
When she's not at work in the Rose City Newsagency, Chikera can be found showing cattle alongside her fiancé, Cayb Schwerin from Clifton.
"We did all the local shows - Allora and Clifton," she said.
"We'll be at Millmerran on Sunday and Pittsworth in a few weeks time."
Chikera is no stranger to representing a small country show after being crowned the Teen Showgirl for last year's Clifton Show.
"Country shows are dying," she said.
"They're not just about sideshow alley, they're about all the different categories.
"That's what we need to support- without them we wouldn't have a show."
Passionate about promoting this year's Warwick Show, Chikera said she was really looking forward to getting out there among showgoers.
"I love chatting to older people - they have so many stories to tell," she said.
"I want to bring more to show by encouraging people to come along."
The 2014 Warwick Miss Showgirl will be crowned at the Autumn Ball on Saturday March 8.
It'll be a big night for Chikera, who admitted feeling some nerves ahead of dressing up and being judged.
"It'll be a good night," she said.
"Will be great to meet the other girls."
Organisers of the Showgirl Quest are desperately searching for Junior Showgirls aged 13-17, with no girls coming forward for this year's event.
Any girls interested should call the Warwick Show and Rodeo Society office on 4661 9927
Tickets for the Autumn Ball are $30 each pre-paid or $35 each at the door on the night.
