RACQ CareFlight Choppers need our support

A SINGLE RACQ CareFlight rescue means the difference between life and death for many seriously injured patients.

This month it's time to contribute to the life-saving rescue service with August marking Chopper Awareness month.

Flight intensive care paramedic for RACQ CareFlight Rescue Brad Solomon said he knew all too well the importance of having lifesaving medical kits at the ready to respond to medical emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"Being equipped with the most reliable and up-to-date medical kits ensures CareFlight's crews have the best possible tools to provide critical care to seriously ill or injured patients on a daily basis, regardless of the location," Mr Solomon said.

Last year CareFlight made more than 130 rescue missions to the Southern Downs Region.

So far this year, the region has had only 27 rescues.

CareFlight executive fundraising manager Leanne Angel said those rescues wouldn't have been possible without ongoing donations and support from local communities.

"CareFlight relies on the kindness of the community to generate more than a third of its funding," she said.

"With your help CareFlight can save even more lives in the region."

Each rescue costs more than $12,500 to cover fuel and medical expenses.

Since Chopper Awareness Month was first held eight years ago, the event has raised more than $200,000, helping to fund lifesaving rescue missions.
