Chris sets his sights on a journalism career

HELLO Daily News readers, my name is Chris McMahon and I am doing a week internship with this great daily paper.

Going into my third year of study at Griffith University in Brisbane, I thought it was time for some practical experience and what better place than the town in which I grew up.

I am very excited to return to my old stomping ground to contribute to a paper that got me through some rough Saturday mornings.

I remember waking up early on Monday mornings before school to rush and read the sport section to see if Gerard Walsh had given me a mention for my mediocre sporting skills or as I got older whether I knew any of the names of those who were caught disturbing the peace out the back of a certain local watering hole.

I may have gone the long way 'round to finally land on my chosen career path, not starting university until I was 25, rather choosing my late teens and early twenties to travel extensively throughout North America.

Though now I am more assured in what my experience can lead me to and what I can achieve if I put my mind to it.

I am very excited to be back in Warwick and knowing the people that I do around town I am sure there will be a story or two for me to tell in the process.

I hope that I can contribute to your daily readings and in the process learn a thing or two from the great team at the Daily News.

The Warwick Daily News would love to hear stories about the interesting things former locals are up to.

You can phone Chris on 4660 1318.
