Christensens prominent in grand final victory in cricket

JAKE Christensen was player of the final as Railway Hotel Rascals made it two reserve-grade premierships in three seasons in Warwick cricket.

Batting first, Rascals made 160 with Jake Christensen hitting 46 and Tom Morris 39.

Matt Kiernan was the best of the Allora bowlers with 4-26. Jaiden Fidge and Sean Bryson each took 2-22.

Allora needed 30 runs with the final three wickets and look a chance when last pair Stewart Henderson and Fidge were at the crease and belted two fours.

The final wicket fell with the Allora score of 145 when the veteran of the team, Ian Christensen, took a sharp catch at second slip.

Ian is one of five Christensens in the Rascals team, two fathers and three sons.

He took the winning catch off the bowling of his nephew Paul Christensen. He didn't play cricket in his youth and started playing when the younger generation joined the Rascals under captain Brad Johnson.

"I didn't have time to think about the catch,” Ian said.

The Allora batting was led by Nick Morris with 30. Gavan Scheiwe was next best with 21.

Rascals bowling stars were Jake Christensen with 4-36 off seven overs and Liam Duncan 2-31.
