LETTER: Warwick's Christmas carols in crisis

IT HAS just been bought to my attention that this year's Warwick Carols by Candlelight will not be featuring the singers that have stuck by our local carols for the last 20 odd years!

Phil Vellacott, Melissa Reid, Erin Hilton, Tegan Hilton, Keely Hilton etc have been pushed aside this year to make way for mostly choirs who plan on taking it "back in time with more traditional carols".

Now I understand this is what Christmas is all about, but to me, carols by candlelight is also about spending an enjoyable night out with family and watching how much joy the children (and adults) get out of dancing and singing along to the upbeat entertainers.

The Warwick carols have always been amazing - why change when you're on a good thing?

No more '6 white boomers' for the kids to dance along to, say goodbye to 'jingle bell rock', 'Santa Claus is coming to town' won't be there!

You won't find a bigger Christmas carol lover than me, and I'm all for the traditional carols, buts let's compromise - the upbeat entertainers, followed by some traditional choir type carols and then back to the upbeat.

I think they'd struggle to get a decent crowd to sit and listen to a bunch of choirs sing carols all night.

The entertainers mentioned above have worked hard to bring our community carols up to the standards of city carols to make it a fun filled night for families to celebrate the Christmas sprit, and now the local council is going to use their "authority" to ruin that.

What a disappointment!

The local council has well and truly lost the plot.

You need to keep up with the times, not go backwards.

Next thing they won't allow Santa to make an appearance as he isn't the true representation of Christmas!!

BRING BACK THE ORIGINALS!!!!

Who's with me on that??
