Church service heads outdoors
THE Warwick Christian Fellowship congregation is getting into the swing of the Jumpers and Jazz Festival by celebrating Church in the Park on Sunday from 10am.
Pastor Tom Gill, who is organising and conducting the morning, said the idea of an outdoor church service wasn’t new.
“You know Jesus pioneered the open-air gospel meeting,” he said.
“Imagine what it would have been like preaching to those massive crowds from a boat.”
The free program will begin with morning tea at the band rotunda, followed by a service featuring items from The Warwick Men’s Gospel Choir and the church’s singers and orchestra.
Pastor Gill said the service was designed to be a family-friendly community morning featuring plenty of music and relaxed fellowship.
He did acknowledge the inherent danger of a winter outdoor event in Warwick.
“It’s a bit of a gamble really but if the weather’s terrible we’ll cut our losses and retreat to a normal service in our church at Emmaus Court.”
The meeting will conclude with a sausage sizzle lunch and games in the park for the kids.
