UPDATE: A Townsville teenager has been charged with three counts of armed robbery after allegedly trying to rob three Toowoomba hotels at gunpoint.

The 17-year-old man from Kelso is alleged to have stormed three bottle shops in two days, armed with what appeared to be a handgun.

He is due to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.

Police will allege the man first targeted DeLacys Hotel on Ruthven St about 9.10pm on Tuesday and made demands for cash to which the 27-year-old staff worker complied.

Police will further allege the same man, armed with a replica handgun, entered the bottle shop at the Gowrie Road Hotel on Bridge St about 8.30pm last night and again demanded cash.

The staff worker again complied before the alleged offender fled on foot to the Fiveways Hotel on Mort St.

CCTV footage shows the alleged robber point a gun at Fiveways Hotel staff.

It will be alleged the 17-year-old made demands for cash again before staff workers refused when the man fled.

Fiveways Hotel owner Hamish Guy and manager Adam Davey chased the offender and tackled him in a citizen's arrest on the footpath outside the hotel.

He was arrested and taken into custody by Toowoomba detectives.

Mr Davey has told of the moment a hotel cook raised the alarm when a man, allegedly armed with a pistol, ran into the drive-through bottleshop and made demands for cash.

CCTV footage shows the alleged offender point a gun at the register toward Mr Guy before Mr Davey walked in behind the alleged robber.

After a brief hesitation, the suspect made a grab for the cash before fleeing from the shop whereupon Mr Guy and Mr Davey took up the chase.

The alleged offender was then tackled and held before he was taken into police custody.

Mr Guy and Mr Davey were not injured in the incident.
