Citizen's arrest over four-pack of bourbon

A CITIZEN pursued an alleged alcohol thief before hitting him with his car and restraining him for police.

A 29-year-old man is alleged to have stolen a four-pack of bourbon from the Warwick Hotel drive-through bottleshop on Palmerin St just after 7pm yesterday.

The Warwick man is then alleged to have fled on foot to Guy St.

Warwick station officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Jamie Deacon said a member of the public is believed to have witnessed the bottleshop staff take chase after the theft, and followed the alleged thief in their car.

"A member of the public who has seen the staff chasing the man has attempted to assist," Snr Sgt Deacon said.

"In so doing they (the car and the man) have collided and the man was knocked to the ground.

"The member of the public then restrained the man until police could arrive."

The 29-year-old has been charged with one count of stealing and is expected to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court.
