City junior colts victorious in football finals

STANTHORPE City made its mark in Saturday's Football Stanthorpe grand finals with a junior colts victory against United.

City junior colts coach Parry Clark welcomed the win from the club's only grand final match.

"It was good they were lucky to get away with a win,” Clark said.

"It was really great and really entertaining to watch.”

While City's Lachlan Gilbert was named Player of the Match, Clark said every member of both sides put on a good show.

"They all played well,” Clark said.

He said United players Jack Renfrew and Brayden Spiller were also standouts.

United president Brian Westerhout said the he was impressed with he junior colts' efforts.

"The junior colts' game... was the best game those junior colts have played for the entire year,” Westerhout said. "City have been the benchmark the whole year.”

It was a nail-biter, as United almost scored barely a minute before the full-time whistle after getting past the strong United defence.

"It's just a credit to the dedication and development of those young players,” he said.

Westerhout said all of the games, which were decided by just one point, made for great grand final viewing.

"It was an amazing grand final day,” he said.

"Everybody brought their best game.”
