Clare McMeniman selected in netball All-Star team
NETBALL: The star of former Warwick West State School student Clare McMeniman continues to brighten after she was selected by the fans as part of the 2016 ANZ Championship All-Star Team.
It is the first time McMeniman has been named in the all-star team after fans voted on the championship website.
She is one of three Queensland Firebirds in the all-star team, the others are goalshooter Romelda Aiken and centre Kim Ravaillion.
They are joined in the team by four NSW Swifts players; goal attack Susan Pettitt, wing attack Kimberlee Green, wing defence Laura Langman and goalkeeper Sharni Layton.
Having four of the seven all stars didn’t help the Swifts on Sunday when they lost to the Firebirds in the Australian Conference final.
In the team announcement, McMeniman was described as a quiet achiever who could remain cool under pressure.
While the fans don’t select the Australian Diamonds team, the recognition further boosts McMeniman’s claims to be part of the national team later this year and then at the 2018 Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast.
Swifts coach Rob Wright was named coach of the year.
