Class of 1980 reunite by Facebook
IN THE 1980s commercial internet was unheard of and the phrase “social networking” was yet to be coined.
But it was thanks to Facebook that Saturday night's Warwick State High School class of 1980 reunion was such a resounding success.
Organisers Julie Gliori and Michelle Anderson proudly donned their WSHS uniforms at the Warwick Golf Club on Saturday night.
About 70 former pupils, former teachers and their partners attended the reunion of the Year 12 class of 1980.
People came from all over Australia to catch up with old mates and the organisers said they couldn't have done it without Facebook.
“I had never used Facebook before this,” Ms Gliori said. “Now we're experts!”
The class had a five-year reunion but hadn't caught up since.
“It's mind-blowing,” Ms Anderson said.
“I'm a bit overwhelmed seeing everyone.”
For Michael Slack it was a long trip back to Warwick from Melbourne, but worth it to see his old friends.
“I haven't seen some of these people for 30 years. It's surreal,” he said.
Even a group of former teachers joined in the occasion.
Maths teacher Peter Campbell said the 1980 Year 12 class was a “calm and comfortable class”.
“They've achieved a lot of personal and family things,” he said.
“And there are some lovely members of the community still living in the community as you cast your eye around the room.
“They were a very cohesive group and it's good for them to catch up and relive the friendships.”
