Classic cars and a classic mode of travel
A GROUP of classic Rolls-Royce cars paid the Rose City a visit yesterday, with members of a classic car club embarking on a stream train ride from Warwick to Clifton.
The eight Rolls-Royce cars, ranging from classic to newer models, were in town as part of a Rolls-Royce Owners Club of Australia - Queensland Branch social outing.
Club member Peter Schneider was part of the convoy with his 1978 Silver Shadow 2.
"We have regular outings to different places," he said.
Fellow club member Charles MacDonald said it was quite a history-filled day.
"It's quite an historic thing to have the old cars and the steam train," he said.
More than 140 passengers boarded the steam train to Clifton as part of St Patrick's Day celebrations in the region.
Southern Downs Steam Railway committee member Bob Amos said the trips to Clifton, Stanthorpe and Wallangarra proved popular.
"It highlights the fact there's an interest in the wider community," he said.
"There's not many opportunities to experience the steam train rides."
The next steam train ride will be to Clifton on Saturday, April 26, with one-way tickets starting at $20 and return from $35.
