AFTER a washout racing season, Warwick Turf Club president Jim Costello wants the Warwick Boxing Day Races at Allman Park to be bigger and better than ever.

Mr Costello said after a tough year for the racing industry - thanks to shocking weather - a forecast of clear skies and 30 degrees was a welcome change.

"Compared with last year, certainly, and the track should be in excellent condition," he said.

Mr Costello said he was pleased with the field of competitors they had attracted.

"But we are disappointed Racing Queensland didn't see fit to add an additional Class B event to the race event in the view of the number of nominations we received," he said.

"We certainly hope people turn out, we are encouraging them to hit the track."

He said nearly $30,000 was on offer in prize money, which helped attracted a good field of nominations.

"We have put on some additional prize money on and have been mindful of extra expense for trainers and jockeys for a holiday meet," he said.

"Now we are just asking everybody to come along and support it."

He said he would like to see a couple of thousand punters turn out, whether it was to place a bet or just for the social atmosphere.

"It's a great social gathering and lot of people come back to Warwick and meet up at the races," he said.

Mr Costello said people were welcome to bring an esky with food (but no alcohol) or meals and snacks would be available trackside.

Gates open about 11am with the first race at 1.30pm.

Buses will be available to take people into town after the event.
