Clermont rider wins by one in the champions draft
CAMPDRAFTING: The biggest scores came early in the final of the Maydan Feedlot Champions of Champions at the Warwick showgrounds late today.
Straight after the arena was watered and levelled, Beaudesert rider Kimberley Sammon set the scene with scores of 85 and 83 from the two judges for an average of 84.
She scored 88 in the first round on Brown Highwayman for 172.
Two runs later, Kilkivan rider Ian Atthow received two scores of 89 from the judges for an average of 89 and a two-round score of 177 to take the lead.
Next into the arena was Clermont rider Rohan Marks who scored 90 from each judge on Repeater.
The combination scored 88 in the first round for a two-round score of 178 to snatch the lead from Atthow.
Two runs later, one of the best in the sport of campdrafting, Pete Comiskey, from Nebo, was on course to score 175.5 over two rounds on Harry to move into third.
Later in the final, he was joined in equal third place by Tamworth rider Hugh Miles, riding Conductor, and Maffra (Victoria) rider Michael Hiscock, riding Tip Top.
After tomorrow morning's second round of the Frasers Livestock Transport Stallion Draft, round 3 of the National Champion Ride of Australia Challenge will be held.
