Clifton State High eager for inclusion in Year Seven shift
CLIFTON State High School will soon round out its last year as a Year 8 to 12 high school.
In the new school year it will join 19 other state high schools across Queensland when it pilots the shift of Year 7 students into the high school system.
Education Queensland Darling Downs South West regional director Deborah Dunstone said the school was ready for the change.
"Clifton State High School is well prepared for the transition of Year 7 to junior secondary," she said.
"The principal and school community has had extensive involvement with the local community and affiliated primary schools preparing for the change."
Ms Dunstone said the move had also been welcomed by staff and students.
"Staff are very enthusiastic about the change and looking forward to putting into practice the planning and preparation undertaken by the school leading up to next year," she said.
"All upgrades and classroom refurbishment work has been completed ready for the commencement of the school year," she said.
Back when the change was announced in 2011 principal Joy Craig believed the school would be able to cater for the influx of students.
"We are a small rural high school and a bit under the enrolment cap, so we're very well placed to take the additional year level," she said.
The extra numbers are anticipated to come from the multiple primary schools in the Clifton area.
"We're in what's called Clifton cluster, where there are several primary schools, but the main one is Clifton State Primary School," Mrs Craig said.
"The other feeder schools, depending on their numbers, their Year 7s will also come to the high school."
Year 7 will officially move to high school in all Queensland schools in 2015.
