Clifton sets Aussie golf speed record for 18 holes

GOLF: It is becoming increasingly hard in the modern day to find time to play golf, but members at Clifton Golf Club have shown it takes no time at all to squeeze in a round.

Clifton Golf Club held a fundraiser for beyondblue on Sunday when 40 members tried to play the fastest round of golf.

They played 18 holes of Speedgolf together with one ball and no player taking consecutive shots.

The team claimed to have gone from hitting off the first tee to picking the ball out of the 18th hole in 21 minutes and eight seconds.

That was a fast pace given the normal round generally takes about four hours.

A bit of preparation went into the effort, with course maps helping participants know where they had to be to keep the ball moving.

The round involved having players littered around each hole who hit the ball on as it made its way up towards the green.

The ball was then thrown between the green and the next hole to where someone was waiting to tee-off.

"From what we can find out, it is probably the fastest in Australia for one ball," Clifton committee member Colin Hoey said.

The fast round was the brainchild of Simon Lamont.
