Clifton to host rodeo, ride clinic, on Saturday
THE annual Wattles Rodeo will be held at Platz Oval, Clifton, at 6pm Saturday.
The arena will be set up at the club's homegrounds on the Clifton Recreation Reserve.
The rodeo is for championship points in the National Rodeo Association.
The action will be after a rodeo school and rugby league clinic earlier in the day at Platz Oval.
Warwick rider Dion Doro will be one of the favourites in the novice bull ride.
He is in a field of eight. There are 10 nominations in the junior bull ride and six in the open.
Two of the best chances in the open are past Warwick second-division bull ride winner Ben Palmer from Toowoomba and Caboolture ride Matt Carlo.
Nominations on the day by 5pm for the pony bareback ride, poddy ride, junior steer ride and open bullock ride.
More than 50 children have already signed up for a junior rodeo school from 10am-2pm Saturday which is part of the Wattles fundraising activities.
Wandoan cowboy David Worsfold is a dual Australian champion in the APRA and will instruct riders on bareback riding while Scott Keogh will use some of his experience from competing in America to help the budding riders.
Late registrations accepted before 9am Saturday. Cost of the school is $30, including lunch.
The cost to attend the rodeo is adults $20, high school students $10, primary school students $5, under 8 free.
