Clive Palmer won't be a contender for a Senate seat

THIS is the end of Clive Palmer's political career for now.

The flamboyant, outspoken and larger-than-life businessman who won a handful of Senate seats with his Palmer United Party along with the Sunshine Coast seat of Fairfax in 2013, is bowing out.

After already confirming he would not fight for the seat, he has now confirmed he won't run for the Senate.

He said on Monday he "has not sought endorsement from the Palmer United Party" for a Senate run.

While the silver-haired magnate will no longer have a seat in Parliament, he is convinced his party will do well.

"We're looking forward to being able to control the balance of power in the Senate so we can keep the 2014 budget initiatives at bay," he said.

Last week Mr Palmer said he had internal polling showing the PUP could win up to four Senate seats.
