Close finish in 100m at Warwick West State School sports
ATHLETICS: Warwick West State School Year 4 student Max Lomas left it to the judges to decide if he won his 100m event at the athletics carnival yesterday.
“I didn’t know if I won, I could see the others coming,” he said.
Max was declared the winner ahead of Samuel Robinson with William Riley third.
As for competing on a cold day at Warwick West, that didn’t matter to Max.
“I enjoy the two days of athletics each year, I love all sports,” he said.
The 100m was Max’s only win yesterday but he finished third in both the relay and 800m and just missed a place in the 200m.
“I am a short-distance runner,” he said.
“I reckon my best distance would be 150m.”
Max said he was slightly behind his rivals after a slow start in the 100m.
“I want a better start next year,” he said.
But after winning the 80m event last year and success in the 100m this year it is apparent there isn’t too much wrong with his finishes.
With one athletics carnival down, Max’s focus will return to football and his work in the midfield.
Max is part of the Warwick Wolves Football Academy.
