CLOSING DOWN: Loved food outlet shutting up shop tomorrow
WARWICK can only scream for Wendy's ice cream for one more day because the popular dessert store set to turn off its freezers tomorrow.
Franchisee Daniel Bowles decided to shut up the shop at Rose City Shoppingworld a couple of weeks ago to spend more time with his partner and two children.
Mr Bowles has owned Wendy's Milk Bar for about 14 months, but he said the store had been at the centre for about a decade.
"I want to try something different and find something that suits our lifestyle a bit better,” Mr Bowles said.
"It's never an easy decision to make but it's the right one I think.
"If you lose your health and family you can't get that back, so I want to prioritise that above anything else.”
Previously a salesman, Mr Bowles bought the Wendy's franchise because it was a good opportunity to try something new.
Warwick proved to have a strong appetite for the frozen treats, as Mr Bowles sold between 60-80 litres of ice cream every week.
Rainbow and rum and raisin proved to be the most popular choices throughout his time behind the counter.
Mr Bowles said he would miss his loyal customers the most when the shop closed.
"I want to thank them for all their support, it's going to be a shame not to have ice cream for littlies and older ones alike, they seem to like it in equal measure,” he said.
"It makes the decision harder when people are upset you're shutting.”
Mr Bowles isn't sure what role he'll take on next, but he's eager to try something he hasn't done before.
Five staff were employed at the store and they will now need to find new positions.
Rose City Shoppingworld centre manager Jason Gard said he was surprised to find out Wendy's Milk Bar was closing.
"It's always disappointing to see someone leave, however, we've still got other plans for the rest of the centre,” Mr Gard said.
Mr Gard said a new store would be moving into the space but would not reveal the name of the shop.
You can get your last Wendy's fix until 5.30pm today and between 9am-4pm tomorrow.
