Club honour surprises Liz
LONGSERVING Warwick Cowboys treasurer Liz Browne has been honoured with life membership of the club.
Liz and her husband Don "Duckie" Browne first became involved with the club in 1998 when two of their sons Justin and Damien started their senior careers at the Cowboys.
She has been treasurer for the past eight years and worked as a volunteer first aid officer since 2000.
"I was very surprised when they announced at the banquet that I had been awarded life membership," Liz said.
"Duckie didn't know either ... he was awarded life membership about five years ago."
When she was contacted by the Daily News in the off-season yesterday, she was at her home away from home, the Cowboys clubhouse working on paperwork for a grant already approved for a first aid room for the club.
She isn't sure how to answer the question "why do you do it?" "It is hard to get people to take positions in a lot of clubs and I keep saying yes," Liz said.
"The role of treasurer has been a lot busier after the three floods which have gone through the clubhouse."
Liz said she enjoyed the treasurer's role.
"It is a skill I would never have learnt if I hadn't been treasurer," she said.
"The main thing when a player is injured is to have crowd control skills so there are not too many people just having a look. I love working with the players, committee and three great presidents, Greg Carey, Duckie and Peter Locke."
