Club tries to lure in new members
ORGANISERS of the Tannymorel and District Recreational Fishing Club remain hopeful a club will be established.
The club's first public meeting was called at the Tannymorel Hall however no one attended outside of the club's creators.
"It's disappointing," Tannymorel resident Shane Upton, one of the group's creators, said.
"We used to have a club in Killarney; it ran for about 10 years and has probably been gone for about 10 years.
"It was great fun and that's why we were hoping to establish another club (on Saturday).
"The aim of (Saturday) was to have people become involved and sort out positions within the club."
Mr Upton said he was still hopeful a club would be formed.
"We might try again in two weeks," he said.
"We had quite a few people who said they were coming and then didn't show up."
Mr Upton said anyone else was welcome to come along to the next meeting as well.
"You don't have to be a gun fisherman and you don't have to own a boat," Mr Upton said.
"It's just relaxing, it's a good family sport and kids can do it too.
"It's a good way to meet new people and if we can form a club, we will try to have 11 or 12 outings around the region throughout the year."
