Clubs can be notified on doping suspicions
THE Australian Crime Commission has given the country's major sporting codes permission to confidentially notify the specific clubs suspected of engaging in doping.
"Once notified, a club may choose to make it publicly known that they have been notified," the ACC said in a statement.
The decision to allow the disclosure came after requests from the Australian Football League and National Rugby League.
Sport in Australia was rocked last week when the ACC released a report indicating sports doping was widespread among the major football codes.
Links between organised crime and professional athletes were also uncovered in the year-long ACC probe, codenamed Project Aperio.
