AFTER they were both devastated by floodwaters last year, two local sporting clubs have been recognised as true blue Aussie battlers.

The Warwick Hockey Association and Warwick Cowboys got back up and dusted themselves off after the floods and on Thursday were honoured for their tenacity with Australia Day awards.

Hockey president Peter Pickering said he was pleased to be awarded the privilege of the Sports Administration Award.

"It is recognition of the hard work and effort that has gone in by not only the Hockey Association but also the community."

Mr Pickering said when the floods hit the club, masses of volunteers came out of the woodworks to offer a rubber glove clad hand.

"We had a lot of helpers from the community walk in off the street and I think this would give them a lot of satisfaction to know their efforts hadn't been in vain."

The year ahead is already looking bright for the club, with work on a new synthetic surface underway.

Warwick Cowboys were nominated for three awards and took out a Sports Administration Award and the Community Sporting Event of the Year.

The Cowboys hosted a Flood Recovery League Legends Benefit Match last year, which attracted some of the sports greats.

Committee member Glen Whitton was on hand to accept the awards at the ceremony and said the club's success was due to a great team of players, committee members and volunteers.

"You are always humbled to be nominated for anything like that and to win is a real honour for everyone involved," he said.
