Coach undecided about Wattles halves
RUGBY LEAGUE: Wattles top- grade coach Gary Lawrence is still looking to settle the selection of his halves combination coming in to his side's Toowoomba Rugby League season opener against the Southern Suburbs Tigers tomorrow on Wattles' home turf at Platz Oval.
Home-grown pivot Michael Duggan has been one to impress in the pre-season but was absent from training this week due to work commitments.
English import Jordan Gale is the other candidate for the number 6 jersey to partner star halfback Matt Duggan, but Gale is still to prove his fitness after an injury concern.
While Lawrence will make the call fore the vital midfield halves before kick-off tomorrow, he is still unsure if former premiership-winning fullback Jackson Green will be cleared from his former English club to take the field.
While he is more than happy with his line-up, Lawrence is particularly pleased with young home- grown players, front-rower Mitchell Duff and hooker Liam Ross.
"Both have trained well and impressed in the pre-season trials and will start today,” he said
While Wattles is aiming to be in line for silverware come season end, today the side will battle for the annual Ragh Family Trophy.
The Ragh family, which has strong links with rugby league in Killarney and with the Wattles and Souths clubs, was first contested in 2005.
