Coaching Dragons after being named state honorary coach
COACH'S CORNER:
Bob Bell played junior rugby league for Brothers in Toowoomba which culminated in eight seasons of A grade in Toowoomba and Bundaberg.
He represented Bundaberg in the front row in 1996-1997 in the 47th Battalion Carnival. Bell first coached in Bundaberg and then at Stanthorpe before starting a coaching career with Collegians Dragons juniors.
Bell guided Assumption/St Joseph's to a Confraternity Bowl trophy win last season and was named coach of the honorary Queensland team. He won an U13 premiership with Collegians last year.
He talks about his philosophy on coaching.
The aim is to have fun and perfect the skills of the players on the way. My big philosophy is to get a team working together, it takes more than one player to win a game.
I am not big on analysing the opposition, we worry about what we have got to do ourselves.
Junior footy is about participation, getting players involved. This year we have two U14 teams at Collegians as we wanted every player to get good game time.
We set different team goals each week, this week it might be working on certain aspects of our defence. In juniors, the aim is to restrict the opposition to a single figure score. My assistants are James Breen and Greg Hoffman.
