Coach's corner: Next gen netballers

DEANNA Naughten was a regular fixture on the school netball court growing up and rekindled her love for the sport four years ago when she joined a social competition with Warwick Netball.

Her coaching debut took place last year when she took a team at Scots PCG College under her wing.

This year she is coaching the under-14s representative team for Warwick.

Every Monday night the team competes in the local Warwick A/B grade competition, in which they are the youngest players.

Despite the age gap, Deanna has coached the team to a number of victories.

The team also participates in the inter-district netball competition and Deanna is proud to say they are undefeated.

"I'm huge on teamwork and basically every week I concentrate on a different area we need to improve on coming out of Monday night's game,” she said.

"I like the challenge of it and making sure the girls are getting the best out of the game they possibly can.”

With two games left in the intra-district competition, her sights are set on making the finals in Toowoomba in July.

She is grateful to have a strong support network.

"It's wonderful to have the support of the coaches in the association. We all bounce ideas off each other,” she said.
