Coal Train back on track

IF YOU hear a slight rumbling in the distance this morning, don't be alarmed – that's just the Coal Train rolling into town.

Queensland selectors are set to reward the attitude of Souths' behemoth Dave Taylor and rubber stamp Greg Inglis's return today when they announce Mal Meninga's 17-man Origin squad at Coolum.

The Maroons will go into camp at Hyatt Regency Coolum ahead of Origin II in Sydney tomorrow week.

Meninga was not at yesterday's selectors' meeting, but expressed his views via telephone hook-up with chairman Des Morris and co-selectors Gene Miles and Allan Smith.

Inglis, still short of his damaging best, made a successful return with South Sydney at the weekend from the hip injury that prevented him playing in Origin I.

While selectors would have preferred he had played more games, he will be rushed back in, with centres Justin Hodges and Willie Tonga unavailable.

Powerhouse Taylor, 18th man for Queensland's 16-12 first-game win, has played two strong games for Souths and will come in at the expense of Warriors forward Jacob Lillyman.

“We'll see what's best for the team on the night. Dave's form has been reasonably good all year,” Morris said.

“He was probably a little unlucky to miss out the first time.

“We need to have a look at the game plan and go from there.”

Morris admitted Manly youngster Will Hopoate was a surprise selection in the New South Wales centres.
