'Jesus, we won!' Coast tradie's massive Gold Lotto win
HE WON'T be hanging the tools up but you wouldn't blame this Coast tradie for doing so after a massive Gold Lotto weekend win.
The Noosaville tradesman, who wished to remain anonymous, was one of Saturday's division one winners.
One of only four winners nationally, the father, who recently celebrated his birthday, was Queensland's only division one winner.
For his efforts in Gold Lotto draw number 3799 the hard-working local picked up $976,274.19.
Stunned at the win, after 20 years of trying, the man said he would use the windfall to help his family, and possibly buy a bigger fishing boat and a new home.
The "surreal" win was confirmed this morning by a Golden Casket official who spoke with the man.
"That's pretty good isn't it?!" the man laughed.
He said it had been a Sunday morning ritual for more than 20 years to sit down and check his ticket, and there'd been a few close calls, but never the jackpot.
"Yesterday, I looked closer and thought 'Jesus, we won!'. Then I did a bit of run around the house and woke everyone!" the winner said.
"You often wonder if people win or not. Now I know! It's just terrific!
"It was just my birthday and Christmas is here so it's even better. Birthday and Christmas rolled into one!"
There were no plans to quit work though after the windfall.
"We've always been pretty hard workers in our family, and I won't stop working because I'll get too fat and lazy! But I'll definitely take it easier," he said.
"We've just got to let the dust settle and think about it. At the moment it's a bit surreal. You've got to get used to the shock first before you figure out what you're going to do with it."
The winning 18-game marked entry was sold at Tewantin Newsagency, at 107 Poinciana Ave, Tewantin.
Tewantin Newsagency owner Angie Flood said they were celebrating, having sold a previous division one Gold Lotto Saturday winner in 2013.
"Ever since we found out we sold a winning entry we've been spreading the news far and wide," Ms Flood said.
The winning numbers in the draw were 5, 1, 39, 45, 28 and 26, with 12 and 14 the supplementaries.
There are more riches laying unclaimed on the Coast too.
It's been 12 months since a Coast local or visitor won more than $1.024 million in Monday and Wednesday Gold Lotto Draw 3618 on Monday, December 19, 2016.
That ticket was bought at Cotton Tree News, at 1/9 King St, Maroochydore.
The entry was unregistered, meaning the prize claim process can't be started until the ticket is checked.
