Cody Angland's a contender for Warwick's bucking double

CODY Angland has the chance to win the bucking double in Australia's most famous rodeo at Warwick on Sunday.

Angland and his brother Rhys hail from Wantabadgery near Wagga Wagga in New South Wales and have just returned from competing in America.

Cody warmed up for Warwick with a rodeo last weekend at Coolamon near his hometown.

In Warwick first round action, he scored 80 in the Daily News Saddle Bronc Ride to qualify for the final and then recorded the same score in the first round of the bareback.

Former Warwick State High School student Lee Kimber won one section of steer wrestling in 5.2 seconds to qualify for the final on Sunday.

Kimber spent a lot of his childhood at Kalbar but attended Warwick High for one year.

He now lives at Lockington in Victoria and is competing in the Rose and Rodeo City for the first time in three years.

His partner Cherie O'Donoghue was one of the top three in the Saturday afternoon section of barrel racing clocking 18.3. Moree rider Wendy Caban led the section with 17.8.

One of the best of the locals is Callum Miller who rode time in both the open and second division bull ride first rounds.

He scored 76 in the open bull ride and 71 in second division.

Blake Weier recorded a second in the junior barrel racing.

All rodeo finals are on Sunday.
