Cold day for Southern Downs trials in school athletics

ATHLETICS: After competing for the first time in last year's state championships, Allora StPatrick student Patrick Denny is aiming to make the Darling Downs team for a second year.

He started this year's Southern Downs championships at Allora on Monday by winning the 100m and 200m heats.

"I want to make it to the state championships again,” he said.

Patrick also plays at fullback and five-eighth in rugby league for Wattles.

The Southern Downs sports were held on a bitterly cold day but that didn't stop the enthusiasm from students aiming to make it to the Darling Downs championships and then get the chance to push for a spot in the regional team.
