Cold snap could bring fruit and vegie price rises

SNOW might have been a welcome sight around Stanthorpe with locals and tourist alike venturing out for unusual sight but it might yet cause a rise to hit local fruit and vegetable prices.

Sam Sorbello runs the Sam the Fruit and Veggie Man's stall at the Warwick Pig and Calf sale.

For more than a decade Sam has been bringing his colourful range of products from Severnlea to Warwick.

Sam the Veggie Man is predicting the recent cold snap will affect the supply of fruit and vegetables in the region.

A Stanthorpe resident himself, Sam enjoyed the snow scenes the cold weather produced even if it means a greater pricetag.

"In all my life that's the most snow I've ever seen," Sam said.

The Warwick Jumpers and Jazz festival has brought bigger crowds to the Pig and Calf sale, Sam was surprised at how many people turned up early yesterday morning.

"This has been the best turn out this early in the day for the markets in a while," he said.

"The festival must be drawing a crowd."

The festival is a great chance for people visiting from out of town to come down and see the weekly Pig and Calf Sale held every Wednesday at the corner of Fitzroy and Lyons St.
