Celebrating 40 years of history at Collegians

RUGBY LEAGUE: Forty years after the junior club was formed, the Collegians Dragons are holding a gala anniversary dinner at the Warwick RSL Kings Theatre on August 12.

Club president Deb Scanlan is urging all adults involved with the club, past players, supporters and interested members of the public to buy tickets as soon as possible.

"There will be no tickets for sale at the door on Saturday week, all tickets must be pre purchased online at www.trybooking.com/QTZL by Monday at a cost of $50," Scanlan said.

Doors open at 6.30pm for the anniversary dinner. There will be a two-course buffet meal and entertainment by Butch Collier. A set of 1977 replica jerseys will be auctioned on the night.

Past Collegians player Frank Barrett is one of three generations of Barretts to play for Collegians at junior and senior level and will be compere on the night.

He was a classy half who played for NRL clubs but is a highly-rated commentator and league administrator who will delight the crowd with his love of the history of Collegians and his knowledge of rugby league.

Many Collegians juniors down the years have gone on to state and national selection and NRL footy.

The anniversary dinner will follow a day of junior rugby league games between Collegians and Eastern Suburbs on August 12 at Collegians grounds. Ten games will be played on the day from 9am. Both Collegians under-14 teams will play on anniversary day.
