Coloured balls on the way for Warwick cricket carnival

HOWZAT with Michael Bourke

THE Australia Day cricket carnival grand final will be played with either pink or orange balls depending on the uniform colour of the grand final teams.

This will add a new dimension to the January 21-22 carnival for both spectators and players. There is a buzz around town for the annual event with 30 team organisers busy selecting teams for each of the T20 games.

Renshaw to be sure

QUEENSLANDER Matthew Renshaw scored a century against Pakistan this week to sure up his place for the Indian tour ahead of Shaun Marsh.

With Renshaw's place secure, I can now see the press pushing for Marsh ahead of Khawaja for the tour.

Lynnsanity

WHAT a massive six from Chris Lynn in the BBL last week at the Gabba with the ball travelling 121 metres from the bat.

While it wasn't as big as Pakistan batsman Afridi's 158 metre six in an international game in 2013, it was bigger than the Dan Christan six I witnessed live at the Gabba last season in the BBL.

Lynn was quoted as saying that he gets really big bats and saws off a couple of centimetres from the bottom of his bats to make them lighter and more powerful.

Horse tip

MY horse tip for this Saturday is the 20-1 long shot Umgeni at the Gold Coast.
