Colourful bras lend support
COLOURFUL brassieres of a range of themes - from potatoes to Ozzy the Ostrich - are decorating the walls of two Killarney stores.
The bras have been put together by creative locals as part of this weekend's Pink Ribbon brunch fundraiser for breast cancer at the Killarney Recreation Centre.
Organised by local pair Tania Lamb and Margaret Grayson, the bras signify the plight of breast cancer patients.
"We've had at least 50 entries so far," Mrs Lamb said.
"There has been great support from local people and businesses - Wickham Farms has done one, as has the cafe, the local banks, the chemist and even the lollipop ladies."
This is the sixth brunch the women have organised, but it's the first year that a quirky bra competition has been initiated.
Money will be raised - and a winner chosen - through people putting a monetary donation beside the bra that wins their vote.
Tickets to the brunch this Sunday from 9.30am, at $10 each, are still available. Alternatively, visitors can choose to turn up on the day.
A multi-draw raffle will be held throughout the function with prizes including a microwave oven, vouchers and fruit and meat trays to win.
A silent auction will also be held, selling off prizes such as a framed Dragons jersey signed by Wayne Bennett donated by Ryanie for Tyres; a $500 Choice voucher and a "boob" cake by Steele's Bakery.
Table bookings and bids can be made through Mrs Grayson on 0429 774 747 or Mrs Lamb on 0428 641 127.
More than $100,000 has been raised already. The pair hopes to increase that to $120,000 this weekend.
